About Us

How it all started
The history of Samudera Market dates back to the 1989. During the early days, buying and selling goods were done mainly through verbal price negotiation. With the understanding that the price negotiation practice was not only time consuming but also could leave one party feels uneasy on its outcome, Ms. Tin naykheng recognized the needs to have a service where price is displyed clearly on goods on sale. Thereafter, Samudera provision shop was born to serve customers.

Behind the name: Samudera Market
The name Samudera Market is a brainchild of Mr. Pheng Hok (Ms. Tin Naykheng’s husband). In Sanskrit the term Samudera or Samudra means the “sea” or “ocean”. Given this fact and that the shop is situated in a town of deep sea port in the Kingdom of Cambodia and that Mr. Pheng himself has always been in the marine industry as shipping pilot, the name Samudera was the choice.

In the beginning, the shop was known as “Samudera sells out, buys in” or “សាមូដឺរ៉ា លក់ចេញ ទិញចូល” in khmer language. Throughout the years, Samudera market has continued to improve on services delivery and to enhance customer satisfaction through customized and personalized services catered to clients. With more and more products and services being offered by the shop, it is now known as “Samudera Market”.
